Splurge Fridays: Dior Lady Art Bag By Tamu McPherson
It’s been a really tough week for the United Sates and world at large. With the election of Donald Trump to the U.S. presidency, many of us have been left distraught and are looking for ways to cope with this shocking outcome. On my Instagram feed, I have noticed countless posts providing information on where to get help if your are finding it difficult to deal with our new reality, as well as posts that offer lists of organizations for those who are concerned about how Trump’s future policies will compromise their civil and human rights. Please stay tuned for our post on “things to do now that Trump has been elected” which will go on-line later today.
Now I know that material things are not the solution for such a weighty issue, but as the saying goes, sometimes shopping is the perfect therapy for sad and stressful moments. If you are looking for a little levity after this week’s demoralizing election, why not treat yourself to a new handbag from the Dior Lady Art collection? The iconic Dior “Lady” has been a favorite amounts stylish women since its launch in 1995. Through the years it’s seen many creative interpretations which have added to it’s allure. This year Dior furthers the chic narrative of its hero bag by commissioning seven artists to contribute their creative juices to its classic design. The first of the seven bags was designed by London-based contemporary artist Marc Quinn and celebrated, in limited edition, the opening of Dior in London this past June. After the success of the U.K. launch, the series now continues with new editions by Jason Martin, Ian Davenport, Mat Collishaw Matthew Porter, Chris Martin and Daniel Gordon which will be unveiled in the Miami Boutique during Art Basel next month. Following Miami Beach, there will be a Los Angeles pop-up, and launches in London, China, Dubai and Paris. Bold, colourful, graphic, psychedelic, midas-touchy, fury, tropical and architectural, these beauties scream joy and have an amazing tactile finish to them. Serious eye candy, insane creativity, and in some cases huggable, why not put them on this week’s list of splurges?
