Dear Pretty Birds,
How were your weekends? Good?
Well, after a long break, I would like to introduce you to this week’s Pretty Bird, the stunning Ramya Giangola. Ramya and I shot these pictures at her house in Sagaponack, NY this past August. I’m sorry that I’m only sharing her profile now, but please refer to it in your daydreams of Summer fun and style, and as inspiration for upcoming beach getaways.
I met Ramya like I do many of my Pretty Birds, capturing their style on the street. And as with many of these incredible individuals, I’ve developed a great friendship with her. What sealed our particular bond is 1) the fact that our little ones are currently “only” children born 16 days apart; 2) we have similar tastes in fashion and decor (although Ramya’s closet makes mine look like a poor step-sister; and 3) a love for Italy and Jamaica. Ramya’s husband G is Italian, my husband G is Italian, and Ramya’s family has traveled extensively in Jamaica, and Ramya has even given me tips about my own country. See the connections, feel and understand the love. And speaking of love, you’ll be totally inspired by Ramya’s amazing travels and cultural influences. So grab a cup of something warm, and ease into your Monday with this special little treat. Xx, Tamu

Favorite Season: Summer
Favorite place: The beach anywhere in the world!
Favorite color, why? – Navy, I love it because it’s chic and neutral and goes with everything!
Favorite book (a passage from the book and an explanation as to why you are inspired by the passage). “Norwegian Wood” by Haruki
Murakami: “But who can say what’s best? That’s why you need to grab whatever chance you have of happiness where you find it, and not worry about other people too much. My experience tells me that we get no more than two or three such chances in a life time, and if we let them go, we regret it for the rest of our lives.”
This passage inspires me because I honestly feel that if I didn’t take certain risks and chances in my life, I would not be where I am today. I hope to live my life fully and with no regrets. To be open to all experiences.
Favorite artist: Richard Serra.
Favorite fragrance, a memory related to that fragrance: Jasmine blossoms from Amankila in Bali. Reminds me of bliss in a most magical setting happiness and peace. Portrait of a lady by Frederic Malle, when I found this fragrance after wearing other FM fragrances for the last 10 years, this one really spoke to me. From that moment on, I have worn this fragrance exclusively, and I feel it really represents me, who I am, who I want to be.
Favorite Decade, why? – I’m really fascinated by the late 60’s and early 70’s Paris and Europe. It was such a time of change and growth culturally and that created new moments in art music fashion.
Favorite Planet – why? Earth, we are so lucky to have our planet earth, and we are the guardians of ensuring its safety for the generations to come.
Favorite Flower, why? – Peonies, I love the complexity of the flower and petals as they start in a tight ball and transform and develop minute by minute.
What do you do before you go to bed: I read for at least 30 minutes in bed before I fall asleep.
