New York Fashion Week SS17 at a Glance – N.1 By Tamu McPherson
Hey There Pretty Birds,
Fashion week is here again, and I am out and about seeking out OUR dream looks for SS17. You know that I’ve always got your back, especially when it comes to the perfect piece to drape over it. Yesterday was filled with lots of stellar shows and presentations by brands that you should absolutely tune into (if you don’t know them already). Here’s a glimpse of what I saw and some of my humble impressions. Have fun and fall in love with the style!!!
If you are looking for cool and happy clothes that don’t fuck up the planet, then emerging brand Öhlin/D is for you. You will be obsessed with their embroidered denim jacket and front snap button flared jeans. Added bonus? The run of show was printed on pale pink seeded paper. (Perfect for your garden)
Charles Youseff, known for his penchant for wearable art delivers a pretty collection inspired by graphic installation artist Esther Stocker and photographer Matthieu Venot. Stocker’s work informed the “relief type” elements and Venot brought dreaminess to the collection. This collection is perfect for the girly-girl in us all.
The Brock collection muse is the gorgeous, well-traveled girl that you definitely want to know and count as one of your friends. Silhouettes are feminine and confident with amazing short sleeve tops, circle skirts you can live in and gorgeous bustled cocktail dresses for garden parties come next summer.
Creatures of the Wind
Shane Gabier and Chris Peters of Creatures of the Wind were on point with their “Angel” themed SS17 collection. Staged at the Grand Masonic Lodge, the runway show featured a performance by Julee Cruise and was full of pieces that can only be described as pure magic. As I was leaving the show space, I bumped into Bethann Hardison who was in no rush to leave. She wanted to stay behind to take in the beauty of the collection and it’s perfect casting. Later, I chatted with Jan-Michael Quammie, the fashion director of Instyle Germany and she shared how emotionally moved she was by the collection. She admitted she literally had several “teary eyed” moments. And THIS IS EXACTLY HOW IT SHOULD BE. Congrats to Shane and Chris!
Hellessy in hashtag: #CLOSETGOALS The silhouettes, volumes and palettes would light up my closet. The trousers alone would be on constant replay (I die). The shirts with the slits at the pulses would keep me on a constant high. And this dress would be my best friend!
Creatures of Comfort
What Frida Kahlo’s daughter would wear today. Things stolen from the icon’s closet and updated for today’s essentials. The colors are phenomenal- canary yellow, emerald green and fuchsia. The pairings confident and perfectly interchangeable. These clothes are for the cool kids.
Check back tomorrow for my entry on today’s fun. I’m hanging with Lisa Folawiyo all day as she presents her SS17 collection. She is Naija! Stay tuned!
