MFW SS 2016: All Hair&Makeup Trends
By Michela Marra
Hey Pretty Birds,
Yet another Milano Fashion Week has ended and this one was simply extraordinary. As usual, we went backstage to sneak a peek at the top hair and makeup trends for Spring-Summer 2016.
FOCUS ON EYES
With well-groomed, emphasized eyebrows (as seen at Moschino, N°21, Cristiano Burani, Dolce&Gabbana, Blugirl and Alberta Ferretti, to name but a few), creating the perfect gaze will be one of the top makeup trends for the upcoming Spring-Summer season. In many cases, this will entail references to the style icons of the ‘90s. Moschino re-interpreted Linda Evangelista’s and Naomi Campbell’s looks, along with those of all the other supermodels from that decade. Eyelids will either be very colourful (as seen at Isola Marras, Missoni and Max Mara), or simply highlighted using golden powders with a natural, delicate and very discreet finish, as we saw backstage at Alberta Ferretti, Blumarine and Gucci. Also trending were eyes loaded with colour, created by overlapping original chromatic combinations and blending shades to perfection (Antonio Marras). We also saw single shades applied onto the upper eyelid and enhanced with glitter (N°21) for a grunge-inspired look. Conversely, Giambattista Valli went with a full-colour, pop look. The most feminine look was definitely proposed by Dolce&Gabbana, who opted for a stroke of eyeliner and mascara to create a quasi-vintage mood. Makeup artists have used the adjective “natural” over and over again, and it is surely fitting to describe a makeup look created using illuminating powders and very little foundation. The result is a fresh, youthful look, thanks in part to the models’ great complexions which require very few touchups.
Rose lipstick, in all of its shades, is still the winner. Antonio Marras and Emporio Armani went bold choosing dark red shades for their models. The nude look is also still quite popular, and opting for a subtle lipstick shade will require creating balance with the rest of your makeup, especially if the focus is on the eyes.
Braids will include graphic elements, while straight, long hair will become wavy or gathered in elegant chignons enhanced by very chic accessories.
