Here there Pretty Birds,
How are we doing today? Already missing your weekend? Well, I hope it was good. And to help you a bit with your withdrawal, here are some images of my weekend in Monte Carlo for the Louis Vuitton Cruise collection by Nicolas Ghesquière.
The weekend started off with a morning drive from Milan to Monaco. The two-and-a-half-hour drive along the Ligurian coast to the French Riviera is one of my favorites in the world. Picturesque – the transition from cityscape colored by lush green mountains, clay colored cliffs, and finally a seemingly never ending azure sea is breathtaking, dreamy and utterly relaxing. The sun’s golden reflection on the vast blue water is both calming and optimistic, the green hills refreshing.
Upon our arrival at Hôtel Hermitage, we were greeted with a special welcome gift in our rooms which included a letter from Louis Vuitton’s Chairman and CEO Michael Burke, invitations to the weekend’s events and postcards which were pictures of the Riviera’s rocky shoreline – all of which were tucked away in a luxe Monogram notebook and a small envelope pouch. BTW – The images portrayed on the postcards were then displayed on the catwalk’s LED panels during the runway show. They are such a thoughtful memento from the collection, I’m thinking of framing my selection; or I could use them as special thank you cards; or add them to a special album that I plan to start this Summer.
After some quiet time, we were treated to a fabulous and delicious lunch at Hôtel de Paris. The atmosphere was energetic with an intoxicating buzz of anticipation related to Mr. Ghesquière’s soon-to-be revealed Cruise collection. It was so nice to catch up with fellow editors and bloggers who I do not normally see between fashion weeks. I had the pleasure of sitting with Leandra Medine (Man Repeller), Anne-Catherine Frey (A Truly Intriguing Subject) and Kristina Bazan (Kayture). They ultimately became my partners in crime for the rest of the weekend. Lunch was so much fun that Anne-Catherine and I had to be literally dragged away to make it to a make-up appointment that the LV digital team scheduled for us. There’s nothing like a little pampering when you’re in the French Riviera. Plus, the women who frequent the area are permanently on glam-status: never an eyelash or strand of hair out of place.
Feeling pretty, shiny and new, it was time for an afternoon snack compliments of the Hermitage. Yummy seasonal fruits and Ladurée macarons were the perfect pick-me-up before getting ready for the show. And I must add that the Hermitage is totally in merit of its five stars. The attention to detail and what seems like infinite list of amenities offered on the property is quite impressive – independent of its glamorous location.
Relaxed, refreshed and eager, it was time to head to the show. If you haven’t had a chance, please read my review here. After Mr. Ghesquière took his exuberant bow and Princess Charlene and Prince Albert went back to congratulate him, guests were treated to a light dinner and cocktails right on the Palace Square. The mood at the cocktail dinner was relaxed, once again energetic and this time buzzing with compliments of how wonderful the collection was.
As dinner wound down, the rest of the evening’s festivities got underway – the itinerary included an after-party at Sea Lounge and an after-after Party at Jimmy’z. At first, I thought I would only attend the party at Sea Lounge and call it a night, but times were good and I ended up staying out all night. O.K. until 2:30am, but that’s all night for me. And I’m so happy that I did! Towards the end of an evening already filled with great conversation and tons of laughter, we got the opportunity to Meet Mr. Ghesquière (Nicolas from here out). By this time, it was only Leandra, Kristina and I left in our small crew. And we decided that we at least had to congratulate him on his great collection. So we mustered up the courage to approach him. And he responded with the sweetest reception, holding each of our hands in turn as he spoke of the collection and his time at LV thus far. He was so happy and his cheerfulness reflected brilliantly in his eyes as he spoke. I’m sure that I’m not only speaking for myself when I say that it was truly an unforgettable moment. And with that, we returned to the Hermitage and closed out eyes to the sweetest of dreams.
They next day, still over the moon about the previous evening, I attended LV’s send-off brunch at the Montecarlo Beach Club. Now, I’ve had the pleasure of visiting many a beach club in Europe, but I have to say, I’ve never seen an establishment glitzier than this one. I LOVED IT! I always do. Give me the sports cars, give me the bling, poster yourself in luxury labels and you’ve got my full attention! That was my first impression after 46 seconds in the parking lot.
Upon entering the grounds and coming down from the over stimulation of the car park, the phrase “playground of the rich and famous” entered my mind. Chic cabanas and daybeds lined the boardwalk and beach, sun-kissed children laughed with their parents, all against the backdrop of a gorgeous, gorgeous turquoise sea. Hmm, I still remember it, very lovely indeed.
After taking in the scenery, my group and I headed over to the restaurant where LV had recreated a farmer’s/gourmet market for its guests. It was incredible, there were yummy treats for all palates and the layout was so charming. It was absolutely the most fabulous send off to a wonderful cruise weekend.
After indulging in three healthy plates, it was time for me to go. I got into my car and we traveled along the beautiful azure coast, over the cliffs, through the mountains and back to Milan. It was a lovely and exciting Cruise voyage, and I’m already looking forward to the next one.
