Homemade Lemonade with Manuka Honey and Ginger by Tamu McPherson
Hey There Pretty Birds,
One of my favorite Summer treats is a cold glass of homemade lemonade. And this week as Queen Bey arrived in town for the Milan leg of her Formation tour, I craved for the cool Summer beverage. As I started to prepare a batch for myself, it dawned on me that I could use the same recipe that I turn to for my winter cold remedy – Lemon tea with apple, manuka honey and ginger.
Following that recipe, sans the apple, I boiled hot water in our kettle. While the water boiled, I sliced two lemons in half and squeezed them. I then poured the fresh lemon juice into a glass carafe adding the boiled water once ready. Afterwards, I juiced a piece of ginger and added the shot to my hot water and lemon juice mixture. After mixing well, I added three table spoons of manuka honey to the mix (I think it’s fair to add one table spoon for every cup of water). Manuka is harvested in New Zealand and is considered a super honey as it contains antibacterial properties that are effective in treating some infections. I know that when I drink it religiously when coming down with a cold, I am able to fight off some of symptoms. Finally, After mixing the brew well, I let it cool and then set it in the refrigerator to chill. Once nice and chilled, I transferred it to one of my favorite pitchers. Try this mix out for yourself, the ginger adds a little kick which is refreshing on a hot Summer’s day.
Check out our manuka cold and flu remedy. File it away for the cold winter months!
