Holiday Make Up: Tips from Claudio Fratoni, make up artist at Nars

by Michela Marra

Hi Pretty Birds,

We are already thinking about the beauty looks we’d like to flaunt during the Holiday season.  As tradition would have it, lips and nails should be red with a super shimmery, shiny finish.  However… following trends is not always mandatory!  We asked Claudio Fratoni, National Make Up Artist at Nars, to help us find a make up look that’s easy to create yet that will make a statement.  The result?  A versatile look, perfect for an evening in elegant attire, or during the day if you are looking to emphasize your gaze.

Here’s a step-by-step guide, including tips from our expert, to help you get the look.

Start off by applying NARS Light Optimizing Primer SPF 15 on your face. «The goal is to illuminate the skin», says Fratoni.  Why is it always best to use a primer? Firstly, primers improve your complexion, and secondly, they guarantee excellent hold for your foundation. The right product for Tamu’s face is NARS Sheer Glow Foundation in Tahoe, to create a translucent, radiant effect.  Then, our make up artist corrected any small facial imperfections using Radiant Creamy Concealer in Amande. The bonus with this concealer? Its coverage is adaptable and ensures an extremely natural finish on the skin. To set the make up, Claudio used Light Reflecting Setting Powder, while he used a Nars product we simply adore to illuminate the face: Illuminator in Orgasm, which has a base of liquid reflectors for a radiant complexion.

Holiday make up simply must be luminous so as to create a 3D-like effect on the skin. Don’t forget to pop a multi-purpose stick, such as Multiple in G-Spot, into your bag for use on eyes, cheeks, lips and body. You can apply it with your fingers, and it only takes a few moments to add a magical, glowing touch to your make up. We are definitely fans of multitasking products that allow us to create an unconventional beauty look within minutes.

Fratoni then moved on to complete the pièce de résistance of this make over: the eye make up. He went over the eyebrows with a coffee-coloured pencil and then brushed the brows with a brow brush. He then applied Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base primer to the eyelids to create a uniform base and to ensure impeccable application of loose powder eyeshadows.

Fratoni selected a limited edition eyeshadow from Steven Klein’s brand new collection (a must-have for Christmas!): Steven Klein Single Eyeshadow in Stud, a loose powder that is super pigmented and long lasting… perfect for any party girl! Applied over the entire lid, it has a metallic finish that changes according to the light and which Fratoni defines «cool». «If an eyeshadow is cool, it suits everybody and doesn’t need much else», he says confidently. How could we possibly contradict him?

On the upper eyelid he applied Single Eyeshadow in Mekong: it’s a luminous, loose powder that reflects light to highlight and underline eyes.

Let’s move on to the cheeks and cheekbones. Our make up artist chose to use the Blush in Exhibit A: «If eye make up is cool, we should choose a warm blush in a shade of red», he suggests. Finally, Audacious Mascara completes the eye make up. We recommend this product, especially if you want to extend lashes and comb and separate them thoroughly.
And now for the lipstick: for Tamu, Claudio chose Steven Klein Shine Lipstick in Besame Mucho with a shiny finish.
What do you think of this beauty look, pretty girls? What make up will you choose for the holidays?
